About our centre

Building Confident, Independent Learners

Welcome to Kumon Diani.

We provide structured after-school support in Mathematics and English Reading for children aged 5 and above. Our goal is to build strong foundations, boost confidence, and develop independent learning skills.

Each child begins with a placement assessment to determine their current level. They then start at a comfortable point and progress step by step, mastering each concept before moving forward. This consistent approach helps close learning gaps and strengthen core skills.

Students attend the centre twice a week and complete short daily assignments at home. This routine builds concentration, discipline, and responsibility — skills that support long-term academic success.

We understand the demands of the Kenyan curriculum and support children who need reinforcement, greater challenge, or increased confidence. Our environment is calm, structured, and encouraging.

At Kumon Diani, mistakes are part of learning. Through patience, consistency, and high expectations, we nurture resilient learners who are willing to try, think, and grow.

We offer both tablet and paper-based learning in a safe, welcoming centre with ample parking, a comfortable waiting area, and a child-friendly space.

Partnering with Parents
We work closely with parents to ensure children are supported both at home and at the centre, creating consistency that drives progress.

About your Instructor

With over 20 years in education, I am passionate about helping children grow in confidence, independence, and ability. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Duquesne University and completed my secondary education at Alliance Girls High School. My experience includes classroom teaching as well as comprehensive Kumon Instructor training.

I opened Kumon Diani after recognizing how much children in our community could benefit from structured, consistent after-school support. I strongly believe in the Kumon Method because it nurtures one of the most important lifelong skills — the ability to learn independently.

At the centre, I conduct diagnostic assessments, guide students through their daily work, and work closely with parents to support each child both at home and in class. I believe meaningful progress comes through consistency, encouragement, and strong partnership.

My approach is calm, patient, and supportive. I view mistakes as opportunities for deeper understanding rather than setbacks. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a concept “click” and the confidence that follows.

Living in Diani, I value the strong sense of community and am proud to contribute by helping raise confident, capable learners.

“It is always better in the end. If it is not yet better, it’s not yet the end.”

Frequently Asked Questions

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
